The Victorian era private bowling lanes at Lyndhurst are in the process of being restored. When completed the lanes will be available to the public for actual use. The restoration has proven challenging since they are unable to determine the maker of the lanes.
Private bowling lanes were fairly common in the homes of the extremely wealthy. They are also about the only examples of bowling lanes from the era. The lanes at Lyndhurst were used over the years by the homes occupants, staff and during WWII they were opened up to recuperating servicemen.
